Dry Cleaning Process
Although there still isn't a clear finding on how long COVID-19 can survive on clothing, CDC recommends dry cleaning garments to properly clean and disinfect garments. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), similar viruses, such as SARS and MERS, inactivate at 158°F (70°C). Our equipment is capable of reaching virus killing temperatures during the standard dry cleaning cycle. Please note that all garments are individually checked before cleaning and drying. We may find an alternate way for garments that cannot withstand a hot wash/dry cycle.
The antimicrobial action of the laundering process results from a combination of mechanical, thermal, and chemical factors. Dilution and agitation in water remove substantial quantities of micro-organisms. Soaps and detergents function to suspend soils and also exhibit some microbiocidal properties. Hot water provides an effective means of destroying micro-organisms. A temperature of at least 160°F for a minimum of 25 minutes is recommended for a hot cycle wash. The temperatures reached during the dry cycle and, especially, the ironing process provide additional significant microbiocidal actions. The cleaning process, wash/dry temperatures, and cycle times are dictated by the garment and fabric materials.*
